Dwight Gregory Sutherland

Native Son of St.George South, Barbados

Dwight has never let his career and personal life keep him far from St George South as his network of family and friends across the communities will attest.  He is proud of his roots in St. George South, it taught him the value of family and community. He can identify in a real and personal way with people’s struggles to improve their own and their children’s lives.

Dwight was a disciplined student leading to stellar academic performance at undergraduate  and postgraduate levels.  While at University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad, he enjoyed the fraternity of Canada Hall and graduated with Upper Second Class Honors in Mechanical Engineering. He would later attend University of Leeds Business School where he obtained an MBA (International Business) again with a Distinction. He also attended the University of the West Indies where he was among the first cohort of students in the M.Sc. In Project Management, again excelling.

He supplemented his academic qualifications with a BIMAP certification in Project Management. He is also a Chartered Engineer, and a member of the Barbados Association of Professional Engineers. Dwight’s professional experience has been primarily private sector driven. His skills and team leadership ability saw him elevated from a Trainee Engineer to Senior Management in less than ten years.

He has a passion for youth and considers teaching among the professions most admired by him. He briefly taught two courses at Harrison College and was engaged as a part-time Faculty member at the University of the West Indies where he taught two courses, International Business and International Management for four years.
