DWIGHT'S COMMUNITY PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

Operation Response

The aftermath of Hurricane Tomas left a number of residents in the St. George community either homeless or needing major rehabilitation to their properties. After more than 2 months without a roof over his head and many promises made to him, a team of committed community workers, led by Dwight Sutherland decided to get together and lend assistance to Mr. Reuben Jones.Mr. Jones is a 92 year old former church leader, preacher, counselor and well respected man in the St. George South community.  When the project team visited Mr. Jones he had no bed to sleep in and was unprotected from the elements. A group of artisans (electrician, carpenters, truck drivers and helpers) from the community came together and donated their skills and resources freely to ensure the project was a success. The project to repair this senior citizen’s home commenced on December 15th with the goal that by Christmas day Mr. Reuben Jones would have a roof over his head.  To date we have achieved our goal with the project 95% completed and only a bathroom to be installed.

Donation of a Pair of Football Boots to Mr. Raheem Thomas

16 year old Raheem Thomas became the pride and joy of the St. George South community when he was selected to represent the Barbados under-17 national football team in 2010. Not only was he selected to represent the team, he was also named Vice-Captain of the team.  Dwight Sutherland congratulated Mr. Thomas on his achievement and presented him with a pair of ADIDAS football boots. President of the Academy Mr. David Carter and Public Relations officer Mr. Corey Barrow were present to witness the presentation. Mr. Thomas plays in the Barbados Premier League division for Ellerton United. He hails from a St. George South football family with his cousin Mr. Gregory Goodridge having represented and also captained the Barbados senior national football team for a number of years.

Donation of a Refrigerator to Ellerton Sports and Social Academy

In May 2010 it was drawn to Dwight Sutherland’s attention by a number of fellow club members that the  Malvern Club needed a refrigerator to facilitate the sale of drinks to the public whenever there was a social or sporting event. In the photo Dwight is presenting the refrigerator to  Club President Mr. David Carter.
